Douglas County Caldor Fire Press Release

September 1, 2021

For Immediate Release

Caldor Fire

Release Date: September 1, 2021

Minden, NV- On August 31, 2021 the Red Cross notified the Douglas County Community and Senior Center that the original group of evacuees from the Caldor Fire would need to be relocated to another shelter to provide space to allow incoming Douglas County evacuees the opportunity to remain in their local community due to mandatory evacuations in the State of Nevada. Moving displaced evacuees was done out of necessity as shelter needs for people and their pets continues to evolve as the Caldor Fire continues to move into Nevada.

The Douglas County Community and Senior Center is currently open to Douglas and Alpine County residents. The Douglas County Fairgrounds is actively sheltering small and large animals.  For a list of additional shelters throughout the state click here.

During an emergency, rumors and misinformation can spread quickly through a community while residents and visitors alike try to get the most-up-to-date information and share it with their family and friends. Please only share vetted information that is coming from an official source such as our page, CAL FIRE, Amador – El Dorado Unit and Nevada Emergency Management to avoid spreading incorrect information that ultimately drains the limited resources of responding agencies. Information regarding Evacuation warnings and mandatory evacuations can be found here.

Douglas County is continuing to ask residents to stay vigilant, pay attention to emergency phone alerts, and have a plan in place for potential evacuations.  In addition, plan for road closures in the area. If you are in a warning zone and choose to leave, fire conditions can change causing additional road closures. Wildland fires present stressful times for many families. Even if you aren’t evacuated you may be worried about loved ones or friends. Remember to stay connected with friends and loved ones and have a plan in place for an emergency.

This situation continues to evolve, please check the website and respond to emergency personnel accordingly.

Information regarding the Caldor Fire can be found here:
